A Christmas Story in May!
A young woman came into our Downtown center two weeks ago. She was 19 weeks pregnant and shared that she was still undecided if she wanted to keep the baby. She had an abortion in 2025 and regrets it, especially since her closest friend died the month after she had the abortion. As she talked with Emily, her Client Advocate, this woman realized that the expected Due Date of her new baby is the exact same day that her friend died last year. Through her tears, she told Emily that she was sure this was not a coincidence. She believed that it was the “clearest message from God” that she could have received. She said that if her baby is a boy, she wants to name him Emmanuel, because that was the last name of her friend.
When Emily told this new client that Emmanuel means, “God is with us,” that made the young woman cry (with joy) even more. She came back for an ultrasound, she signed up for the Aid for Women Earn While You Learn parenting classes, and she is eager to participate in other Aid for Women programs as well. She works 50-60 hours/week at Taco Bell but found time to go to church on Mother’s Day to thank God for helping her through her decision.
